Among the wide variety of animal sculptures by Isidore-Jules Bonheur (1827-1901) exhibited at the Salon were a number of mounted equestrian models including three studies of jockeys on horseback, shown in 1864, 1879 and 1886. The most famous of these is Le Grand Jockey or The Large Jockey, which was awarded the prestigious Medaille d'Or.

We have cast The Large Jockey in our own California art foundry using 54 lbs. (24 kg) of pure bronze. The sculpture is mounted onto a marble base, stands 23" high by 22½" wide (58 cm high by 57 cm wide), and is signed "I BONHEUR" in the bronze. It boasts a gorgeous patina finish in tones of brown and amber.
